Cookies

This policy describes the cookie and browser storage used on shooms.net. For everything else about your data, see our privacy policy.

The short version

We use one cookie and two browser-storage entries. The cookie keeps the site in the language of the pages you view; the storage entries remember your place on the home page. None come from third parties, none track you, none hold personal data, and none are used for analytics or advertising.

What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser; your browser sends it back to that website with each request. Browser storage (on this site, sessionStorage) works in a similar way, but it stays in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

What we use

NEXT_LOCALERecords the language of the pages you view (for example en or uk), so the site keeps showing that language. Set on every page, including your first visitCookie, strictly necessary, SameSite=LaxSession — deleted when you close the browsershooms.net (first party)
ss-home-scrollRemembers how far you have scrolled the home page, so "Back to the site" on the Documentation, Privacy, Terms or Cookies page returns you to the same placesessionStorage, strictly necessaryUntil you close the tabshooms.net (first party)
ss-home-returnA short-lived marker set when you click "Back to the site" on the Documentation, Privacy, Terms or Cookies page, so the home page knows to restore your placesessionStorage, strictly necessaryDeleted as soon as your place is restoredshooms.net (first party)

None of the browser-storage entries is sent to our server or identifies you.

Why there's no consent banner

The ePrivacy rules — Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and the national laws based on it, and PECR in the UK — require consent before a site stores information on your device, whether in a cookie or in browser storage, unless that storage is strictly necessary for a service you asked for. Keeping the site in your language and remembering your place on the page is exactly that, so no consent is needed.

There is nothing optional on the site, so there is nothing to consent to, and we don't show a banner. If we ever add analytics, marketing cookies or embedded content from other companies, such as videos, we will update this policy and add a consent banner before they go live.

Third-party sites

Our pages link to our Instagram, Facebook and YouTube accounts. These are plain links that open in a new tab without passing on which page you came from; nothing from those services loads on our pages. Once you open them, their own cookie policies apply.

How to delete or block them

  • Closing the tab deletes the sessionStorage entries.
  • Closing the browser deletes the NEXT_LOCALE cookie.
  • To delete everything at once, clear the site data for shooms.net in your browser's privacy or site settings (look for "Cookies and site data", "Manage website data" or similar).

You can also block cookies for shooms.net in your browser settings. The site will still work, but it may not keep the language you chose.
